Logs from an heirloom tree in your yard can be turned into lumber for that special woodworking project. We encourage our customers to utilize these special trees for lumber instead of turning them into firewood or chipping them. Typically these trees have foreign objects in them and a large sawmill will not accept them as they can cause severe damage to circular blades. We will do what we can to avoid these objects but if we do strike one with the blade we charge a minimal fee for resharpening, or if necessary the replacement of the blade. We can also saw logs from storm damaged trees and help turn a bad situation into something positive.
The sawmill requires an area of 26' x 8' and can usually be set up in 15 minutes at your site. We ask our customers to try and keep the logs as clean as possible and have them lying on skids. This keeps the logs off the ground and allows us to easily roll them to the hydraulic loading arms of the mill. In order to keep their cost to a minimum we encourage our customers to provide assistance during the sawing process. This involves the handling of the lumber and slabs as they are sawn from the log, and keeping a log ready to be loaded onto the mill. By providing this assistance the sawyer is focused on the sawing and we can produce more lumber in less time, which provides the best value for the customer.
We have done a lot of sawing for farmers. We help them turn their logs into lumber for fencing, wagon beds, siding, stalls, sheds and many other projects. We have cut hard maple logs into flooring for the restoration of an older home. We have cut lumber for just about any project that you can imagine.
If the customer would rather bring their logs to us and have them sawn then we are happy to provide this service. At times we have sawn logs for our customers on shares. In other words we take a percentage of the lumber produced as pay for the services provided. As a result we usually have on hand an inventory of lumber for sale.
